The Story Behind The Shot
On my journey across Europe, I was trying to find a wide variety of people from all walks of life. I had a certain image of the Jeunesse Dorée (wealthy young socialites) and therefore went to the mecca on the French Côte d’Azur with its great private clubs. After days of searching for a face, I became slightly frustrated since I hadn’t found what I was looking for. On the very last day, as we were already stocking up on sandwiches to travel back to Switzerland, we met this jeune garçon selling us the foods. Me and my assistant looked at each other, and within minutes we had built up the studio and took a few last shots before it got too dark. I am not sure who Tarek represents exactly, but I do know that I’m very happy with the portrait and outcome of our trip to the Côte d’Azur.
