The Story Behind The Shot
The Galaxy SOHO was built between 2009 and 2012, designed by British-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. It is an office, retail and entertainment complex inspired by the grand scale of the city of Beijing and consists of four continuous flowing volumes that are apart but linked by bridges. The architecture is supposed to be a world of flowing open spaces, without corners or abrupt transitions, and represents a reinterpretation of the classic Chinese courtyard. I’m a long time fan of Hadid’s because to me she’s one of the only architects with a high recognition value. I’ve had the opportunity to take pictures of her work quite a few times, but was surprised that one of the most fascinating of her buildings to me I found here in Beijing, Asia.
