Artwork - Amdo: Mother with masked child
The Story Behind The Shot
In preparation for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 I went in the previous year to China, in order to produce new picture material for Keystone. I mainly stayed in Beijing, but also drove to the northeastern Tibetan region of Amdo to cover a more traditional China. After visiting a monastery with an enormous amount of prayer flags, I encountered a mother with her son wearing this incredible mask. So I asked them for their picture.
